BALER, Aurora — Authorities confiscated boxes of fake medicines bearing the label of the United Laboratory Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Unilab) in a raid on five drugstores in this capital town of the province Tuesday afternoon.
Police Inspector Robert Ramos Prado, officer-in-charge Chief of Police of Baler Police Station, said the raid stemmed from a complaint filed by Unilab before the Regional Trial Court (RTC), City of Manila, Branch 46.
Prado said that the fake medicines are Tuseran, Decolgen, Medicol, Advance Bioflu, Solmux, Alaxan FR, Biogesic and Dolfenal being sold by some drug stores here.
He said that personnel of the Regional Intelligence Division led by Police Inspector Roman Calura Punzalan Jr., Baler Police Station and team from Unilab served the search warrants dated March 23 issued by presiding Judge Rainelda H. Estacio-Montesa of Manila RTC Branch 46 for violation of Republic Act 8293 otherwise known as Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
The search warrants were issued against Zenaida T. Belen operator of Gresan Drug Store located in Barangays 1 and Reserva; Marites J. Neri, owner of New Baler Drug and General Merchandise located in Barangays Suklayin and Reserva; AMCO Pharmacy and the Generic Pharmacy, both located in Barangay Suklayin.
Punzalan said that those drug stores were closely being monitored by the police and already conducted a test buy prior to the operations.
“The drugs being sold by those drug stores were already examined in the laboratory and verified the label, color and packaging,” he said.
Fake medicines were inventoried in front of the drug stores owners and operators and now under the custody of the intelligence operatives and to be presented to the issuing court.
The Unilab will file appropriate charges to these owners of drug stores in this province, he said.
Relative to this, Prado appealed to the owners of the drug stores to check the authenticity of the medicines.
“It is the public suffering from ailments who are affected. They have to check whether the medicines are faked or original. It is unfortunate for the buying public,” he added. (Jason de Asis, Philippines News Agency)
