BALER, Aurora — A fire roared through one home in Sitio Tabun, Barangay, Buhangin in this town Friday morning, killing one crippled man, shocking the community here.
The victim was identified by firefighters as Maria Zenaida Benedicto, 46, who was burnt alive in the fire incident in the house of a bed ridden Silvestre Benedicto, married, 72.
Bureau of Fire Protection Senior Fire Officer 1 Randee Leomar Tubera, Fire investigator said that Silvestre’s wife Estellita left the house believing that the fuel was completely put off in the dirty kitchen while boiling water at around seven in the morning.
Estellita was picked-up by one of her grandchildren and left home.
“The bed ridden Silvestre was rescued by road construction workers who were near the house on fire whereby the victim Maria Zenaida was trapped by the burning house,” Tubera said.
He added that the fire blaze started at around 8:11 and it was under controlled at 8:25 until the fire out at 8:31 in the morning.
The house is made up of light materials. The side walls are combinations of nipa and GI sheets and with GI sheets also as roofing.
Fire investigator Tubera said that the damages brought by fire blaze was estimated to Php50,000. (Jason de Asis)
